Urban Micro Affordable Housing

Kobayashi + Zedda Architects together with sister company 360 Design Build successfully developed a proposal for a modestly affordable rental housing project located in Whitehorse, Yukon. Located centrally along 4th avenue near downtown, the micro unit development is easily accessed by main transit routes and is close to public green-spaces, cycling and walking paths.

The building consists of a total of 14 apartments, 10 of which are affordable one bedroom units and 4 are market rental suites; all with shared access to oversize storage lockers. Rents are geared to income and are to remain below the average median market rent and capped for those with family incomes of less than $49,500 per year.

The high density urban in ll project builds upon the recent development successes of Kobayashi + Zedda Architects to create a vibrant mixed use downtown neighbourhood community in Whitehorse. With a rooftop amenity area and an energy effciency target of 25% better than the National Energy Code for building 2011, the project will help address the acute needs for affordable housing in the community.
