Mine Rescue Station

Kobayashi & Zedda Architects was retained by Yukon Worker’s Safety & Compensation Board to replace the existing mine rescue station (MRS) and Worker’s Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) offices.

The MRS user group required a drive-thru garage to house their mobile emergency response command trailer, along with training and equipment maintenance areas. Using a single-slope roof allowed for a simple and effective building form that enveloped both the larger garage and smaller office areas. The MRS and WCAT user groups share building services while maintaining separate entrances to further increase the building efficiency.

The project includes an emergency generator, and utilizes an energy efficient envelope and mechanical system to achieve a projected energy use of 24% less than the minimum energy code requirement, resulting in significant savings to operating costs.
