Dawson City Hospital
Kobayashi + Zedda shared design responsibilities with Prime Consultant Stantec Architecture of Vancouver for the design of the new 24/7 hospital which commenced construction in 2010. The new 3,200 square metre facility replaces the existing 9 to 5 health centre and allows for a substantial increase in the delivery of health services in the community.
The new structure is the largest building in the historic city centre and was required to conform to the stringent requirements with the Heritage District Guidelines established by the City of Dawson. The new building pays homage to some historic structures and details from the past and attempts to act as a backdrop to the neighbouring and national historically significant Old Territorial Administration Building (OTAB) now known as the Dawson City Museum.
