Dawson City Alexander McDonald Lodge
Kobayashi + Zedda was retained to provide full design services for a new $10 million residential care facility in Dawson City, Yukon to replace the existing Alexander McDonald Lodge residential care facility. The new facility design and construction has been designed to a B2 care facility and CSA Z8000 standard in order to accommodate residents who required minimal to moderate assistance with the activities of daily living and require daily monitoring and/or professional care.
The new facility is connected to the new $24 million Dawson City Hospital and shares heating systems and food service capabilities.
Buildings designed in Dawson City’s core area are subject to strict heritage design guidelines. The architects were required to work closely with the Heritage Advisory Committee to arrive at a ‘Klondike style’ design which fits within the context of the Dawson City’s Edwardian–based building stock.
