Ashea Head Start
The Ashea Head Start preschool replaced a daycare located in an existing residence. The preschool was built in part by community carpenters and labourers and is located in the heart of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation Village. As part of the Headstart program, the building provides a secure, nurturing environment for Kwanlin Dun First Nation children.
The Activity Area, Classroom and deck areas orient toward outdoor play areas, an existing boreal forest and south exposure in an effort to connect with the residential neighborhood and the ever-changing natural site.
The children attending the previous daycare selected the colours for the new building.
Completed under predecessor firm Florian Maurer Architect Ltd (ownership Jack Kobayashi and Florian Maurer). Project Lead: Antonio Zedda.
